The United States of America suffered a severe blow when attacked on September 11,2001. Thousands of
lives were lost, including many in public safety.
As the years go by we might forget the supreme sacrifice made by many. Time, after all, does make us
forget. This year marks the 20th anniversary. We must not forget and try to remind others.

In closing:
The September 11 attacks were a series of four coordinated terrorist attacks upon the United States on
September 11, 2001.
The attacks resulted in 2,977 fatalities, over 25,000 injuries, and substantial long term health consequences,
in addition to at least $10 billion infrastructure and property damage. It was the deadliest terrorist attack in
human history and the single deadliest incident for firefighters and law enforcement officers in the history of
the United States.
On that morning, 19 Islamist terrorists affiliated with al-Qaaeda hijacked four commercial passenger jet
airliners. The hijackers intentionally crashed two of the airliners into the Twin Towers of the World Trade
Center in New York City, killing everyone on board any many others working in the buildings. Both Buildings
collapsed within two hours, destroying at least two nearby buildings and damaging others. The hijackers
crashed a third airliner into the Pentagon. The fourth plane crashed into a field near Shanksville in rural
Somerset County, Pennsylvania, after some of its passengers and flight crew attempted to retake control of
the plane, which the hijackers had redirected toward Washington D.C. There were no survivors from any of
the flights
The United States responded to the attacks by launching a “War on Terrorism’, invading Afghanistan to
depose the Taliban, who had harbored al-Qaeda terrorists, and enacting the USA PATRIOT ACT..
Cleanup of the World Trade Center site was completed in May 2002, and Pentagon was repaired within a
year.
The construction of One World Trade Center began in November 206, and the building opened in November
2014. Numerous memorials have been constructed, including the National September 11 Memorial &
Museum in New York City, the Pentagon Memorial in Arlington County, Virginia , and the Flight 93 National
Memorial at the Pennsylvania crash site.
Let us never forget the brave men and women of September 11, 2001
