Thousands of\nlives were lost\, including many in public safety.\nAs the years go by we might forget the supreme sacrifice made by many. Time\, after all\, does make us\nforget. This year marks the 20th anniversary. We must not forget and try to remind others.\nCentral Time\n7:46 am: Hijackers deliberately crashed American Airlines Flight 11 into floors 93 through 99 of the North\nTower.\n8:03 am: Hijackers deliberately crashed United Airlines Flight 175 into floors 77 through 85 of the South\nTower.\n8:37 am: Hijackers deliberately crashed American Airlines Flight 77 into the Pentagon near Washington D.C.\n8:59 am: The South Tower collapsed.\n9.03 am: After learning of the other attacks\, passengers on United Airlines Flight 93 launched a\ncounterattack on hijackers aboard their plane to try to seize control of the aircraft. In response\, the hijackers\ncrashed the plane into an empty field near Shanksville\, Pennsylvania.\n9:28 am: The North Tower collapsed.\nIn closing:\nThe September 11 attacks were a series of four coordinated terrorist attacks upon the United States on\nSeptember 11\, 2001.\nThe attacks resulted in 2\,977 fatalities\, over 25\,000 injuries\, and substantial long term health consequences\,\nin addition to at least $10 billion infrastructure and property damage. It was the deadliest terrorist attack in\nhuman history and the single deadliest incident for firefighters and law enforcement officers in the history of\nthe United States.\nOn that morning\, 19 Islamist terrorists affiliated with al-Qaaeda hijacked four commercial passenger jet\nairliners. The hijackers intentionally crashed two of the airliners into the Twin Towers of the World Trade\nCenter in New York City\, killing everyone on board any many others working in the buildings. Both Buildings\ncollapsed within two hours\, destroying at least two nearby buildings and damaging others. The hijackers\ncrashed a third airliner into the Pentagon. The fourth plane crashed into a field near Shanksville in rural\nSomerset County\, Pennsylvania\, after some of its passengers and flight crew attempted to retake control of\nthe plane\, which the hijackers had redirected toward Washington D.C. There were no survivors from any of\nthe flights\nThe United States responded to the attacks by launching a “War on Terrorism’\, invading Afghanistan to\ndepose the Taliban\, who had harbored al-Qaeda terrorists\, and enacting the USA PATRIOT ACT..\nCleanup of the World Trade Center site was completed in May 2002\, and Pentagon was repaired within a\nyear.\nThe construction of One World Trade Center began in November 206\, and the building opened in November\n2014. Numerous memorials have been constructed\, including the National September 11 Memorial &\nMuseum in New York City\, the Pentagon Memorial in Arlington County\, Virginia \, and the Flight 93 National\nMemorial at the Pennsylvania crash site.\nLet us never forget the brave men and women of September 11\, 2001
